Limestone is an ideal material for using outside as paving, as cladding, as building blocks and for sculptures or other bespoke works. The big concern for architects and specifiers is how the stone will weather over the life of the project.

At last year's Homebuilding Show at the NEC, I gave a short presentation on how to ensure success when designing and installing a natural stone project. I'll be giving a more in-depth talk on Thursday 9th Feb 2017 at this year's Surface Design Show #SDS17.
The SDS show is specifically for designers and architects. Let me know if you would like complimentary tickets.

The Homebuilding and Renovating Show, NEC 2016:
Another busy Homebuilding and Renovating Show at the NEC has just come to a close. This year, we focussed on our unique range of French limestone and a small selection of eye-catching Portuguese marble.
At this year's show, I was "volunteered" by my wife and daughters to give a seminar on the "Selection and Installation of Natural Stone". So, the audience got to hear a cut-down version of the presentation that I give to the Stone Federation at their regular training events. In the seminar, we discuss the importance of selecting the correct stone for the project and we run through the key elements of installation.

For many interior designers, architects and private clients, the decision to use marble or limestone can represent their design statement as well as a financial investment so it is not surprising that they can be a little anxious to ensure that the project is a success.

Last week, Steve and Denise visited the Ampilly quarry in Burgundy, France, to research options for an upcoming project. We were looking for a French limestone flooring that could be supplied in a variety of sizes, thicknesses and surface finishes and could also be cut for steps and wall copings. We had used Ampilly for the terrace at Amarestone HQ (pictured below) so it is a stone that we already knew quite well but this was the first time we had made it out to the quarry.

Last Wednesday the Stone Federation held a seminar day in London for members about design and installation of natural stone. Amarestone's Director, Steve Turner, was one of a group of five industry experts to present a talk to the assembled stone professionals.
I went along to listen to the talks which featured a range of key topics such as current industry regulation, technical specification, problem solving and general best practice. As always, the team at the Stone Federation did an excellent job of hosting the event and their collective enthusiasm for raising standards in the industry through knowledge sharing really shone through. Well done and thank you!

Spanish Limestone Quarry visit
Last month, Denise and Steve spent two days visiting a limestone quarry in Southern Spain to select slabs for an upcoming project. The architect on the project had specified Crema Palancar, a pale coloured limestone, for the roof terrace.
February and March were exceptionally busy months for us this year. We presented at the Surface Design Show, exhibited at Ecobuild and Homebuilding & Renovating, and several big client projects that had been in the planning stages since before Christmas had just been given the go ahead.
